Long Walk to Claverdon 4th May

Nine members of the Long walk group set out from The Crown at Claverdon to complete a 5 + mile walk .

As Clover Hill (Claverdon) is 400 feet above sea level and is surrounded by low lying ground in every direction the start was inevitably downhill. In the minds of all long walkers is that simple Newtonian fact that what must go down must come up (it’s reversible!)

So, the circular  “Bluebell Walk” circumscribed its way across fields, down lanes, along an old drover’s ways, tracking canals and negotiating coppices with vistas of vivid blue’s miraging from fields of bluebells.

A wide range of beasts were encountered en route; sheep, lambs, protective cows with young calves, a very big Bull, heron, a farrow of pigs 5 in all, and a family of gnomes (not sure what the common noun is for Gnomes but could it be a gnonagram!)

This walk proved to be a PB (Personal Best) for the Leader as it provided at least 12 styles, some worthy of the Badminton Horse Trials, however all runners and riders scored a clear round.
